Long

RE: Baseline Resource, File No. M-97-058 Division Dveclor
Slurry Wall Construction
Dear Mr. Gregg,
As noted in our phone conversation of June 2, 1998, a reclamation cost estimate was conducted by
the Division of Minerals and Geology for the slurry wall permitted under the Baseline Resource Mine
(File No. M-97-058). The Division estimated a cost of $1,601,073.00 to construct the slurry wall
using 1998 Means Site Work and Landscape Cost Data. Please see the attached bond summary sheet
for additional detail.
Please also be reminded of the conditions of the Baseline Resource Mine permit approval. Four
options were presented to the operator regarding the slurry wall construction, and are attached for
your reference. In options 2, 3 and 4, the Operator must provide engineering designs regarding
keying in the slurry wall to bedrock and information regarding the permeability and geologic
conditions of the underlying bedrock. This information needs to be submitted as a revision to the
permit and be approved by the Division prior to exposing groundwater in Phases 2 or 3. It was noted
in our conversation that the slurry wall is nearly 40% complete. Please be advised that the Operator
will also need to submit to the Division an as-built certification of the slung wall, before groundwater
can be exposed in Phases 2 or 3. Submittal of the engineering designs and as-built certification may
adjust the estimated cost to construct the slurry wall.
The engineering design, the as-built certification, and a reclamation performance bond in the amount
of $1,601,073.00 must be submitted to the Division prior to ground water exposure.
]f you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
7
~~r~~~t _ C~~~'-~,~
Erica S.
