Following is a brief summary of the relevant aspects of the application.
1. The applicant proposes to mine gravel from an open pit at a site approximately five
miles west of the town of La Veta.
2. A Test hole constructed by the applicant indicates that depth to ground water is such
that ground water will not be exposed by the operation.
3. The applicant states that no water will be used in the mining operation.
4. The applicant states that all surface drainage will be ditched around the pit.
Based upon. the above information, this project should have no impacts on water resources in the
area. The applicant should be informed that if groundwater is exposed in the course of mining,
they will need to obtain a well permit in conjunction with a substitute water supply plan approved
by this office.
Please contztct this office if you have further questions.
KVH/clf:keeling
r~
L
OF COLD
~qw ~ *~ , ,~(~ 11111111iiii1111111
H i ~ $'~ JERIS A.
