Boz 1220
Carbondale, Colorado 81623 Job No. 197 682
Subject: Slope Stability Evaluation Near Southern Property Line, Proposed
Gravel Pit, Schmidt Property, Highway 6 & 24, East of Gypsum, Eagle
County, Colorado
Dear Mr. Stephenson:
As requested by Steve Wujek of Knight Planning Services, we are responding to Item
A!4 of a letter by the Division of Minerals and Geology dated May 18, 1998, We
previously conducted a geotechnical study for the proposed gravel pit development and
presented our findings in a report dated December 11, 1997, Job No, 197 682.
The southern limit of [he gravel pit excavation is proposed to be about 50 feet from the
southern property line as shown on the design drawings by High Country Engineering,
dated November 19, 1997. Our analysis and design section of the gravel pit slope near
the southern property line are presented on Pigs. 6 and 7 of our previous report
(attached). Beyond the property line are the railroad track, telephone, fiber optic litres,
gas line and highway 6 & 24 at a distance of about 100 to over 200 feet.
Based on our analysis, the extent of potential failure of the temporary pit wall cut slope
will be well within the property limits and the 50 foot setback from the property line is
appropriate, In our opinion, there will be no sigtuticant damage to the utility lines,
railroad or highway due to the proposed grave] pit excavation.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call.
Sincerely,
HEPWORTH -PAWLAK GEOT ^°'`"CAL, INC.
`~ ~' ~~ T AF •y~
o;
Steven L.
