~ • iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii <br />Colorado Springs, Colorado <br />25 October 1977 ,,,_, ~_,,,, r:,,, ~, y „ ._,,, <br />,, , ,~;=, <br />_ - ...% <br />Colorado Mined Iand Reclamation Board ," . <br />723 Centennial Building <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 _" <br />G; . ,. ... <br />The undersigned citizens respectfully request the Reclamation Board <br />to schedule a public hearing in Colorado Springs during week-end or evening <br />hours to consider our verbal objections to Castle Concrete's pending <br />applications to continue mining activities in our community, <br />Our protest will stress several points; <br />1, Public documents filed by Castle Concrete in Colorado Springs at <br />the E1 Paso County Clerk and Recorder's Office exclude reclamation <br />plans from public scrutiny, These plans are stamped "confidential," <br />2, Castle's actions speak louder than their wards, The company has <br />xrought almost total devastation at Snyder, Queen's Canyon and <br />Pikeview quarries; clearly evident to the casual or trained observer, <br />3, We request the Reclamation Board to inspect this devastation and to <br />review reclamation activities within the upper txelve acres at <br />Queen's Canyon which border on total failure after many years," <br />4, Castle Concrete should be judged on almost two decades of dismal <br />reclamation performance, Surety should be significantly increased <br />to insure adequate reclamaticn, <br />5, Mining permits should be denied until Castle submits convincing <br />evidence of successful reclamation efforts within a realistic <br />time limit, <br />• sees "A Report on Queen's Canyon Quarry" ^ ~` <br />Colorado Springs Park and Recreation Department 1 <br />Design and Development Division <br />Aovember 1, 1974 <br />
