The application is for mining of a 17 acre gravel pit. The
area will be reclaimed as a waste disposal facility. No information concerning either
ground water or surface water was available in the application. If the operator exposes
ground water or needs to dewater the pit, a valid well permit must be obtained from this
office prior to beginning of mining. In addition, if water is to be used in the operation or
if a water surface is left exposed to the atmosphere, the operator may have to develop a
water supply plan. Since no water information was submitted, we cannot recommend
approval of the City of Monte Vista Lagoon Pit. We suggest that the operator contact our
Division Engineer, Mr. Steve Vandiver, in Alamosa (719) 589-6682 for more information.
Sltould you have any additional questions, please contact this office.
cc;: Steve Vandiver, Division Engineer
S[eve Baer, Water Commissioner
