Dear Mr. King:
This responds to your Department of the Army permit
application to continue gravel mining in the Animas River near
Durango, Colorado. We have assigned number 199475260 to your
application. Please refer to this number when corresponding with
this office about your application.
To continue processing your request, we need additional
information. Firstly, we need a more complete list of adjacent
property owners' addresses including those on the east bank of
the Animas River.
On April 1, 1980, the Corps of Engineers issued Department
of the Army permit number 6990 to Animas Aggregates, Incorporated
(AA) to discharge 3,000 cubic yards of material to restore dikes
and protect the dikes from erosion at the same location as your
current application. The current application drawings are
similar to those attached to this previous but there are
differences. I am enclosing a copy of this previous permit for
your information.
We believe that incorporating all of the work done in the
Animas River by A A under the current application would be
preferable. Accordingly, please provide us with a written
description of the dikes (labeled berms in the current drawings)
This berm description should include the length, width, ~~ubic
yards of material, and composition of the material. Include a
description of your maintenance requirements for these b~arms.
