I request that you deny their permit, because:
1. I am an asthmatic and any additional dust particles in the air will negatively
impact my health. I have a letter from my physician stating the seriousness of my
ailment. I will provide copies upon request. Smoke from diesel generators and
engines will only make my condition worse.
2. There are mining tunnels that do not appear on any state geological maps,
including at least one on my property. I am very concerned that equipment
vibrations or dewatering of the mine might destabilize mine pillars. I have had
state geological engineers evaluate the cracks that appeared throughout my house
shortly after it was built. They were unsure of the cause, but we did discuss at
length the possibility of additional uncharted underground mines and subsidence.
3. I am a state certified water operator, and have grave concerns about the potential
impact to groundwater that a Quarry might have. The quality and quantity of
water here is limited, and a resource to be protected.
4. There is a safety issue involved. When trucks leave the proposed site of the
Quazry; they will enter onto our primary road out of this valley from a blind
corner. It will be the site of future accidents if the Quarry is put into operation.
5. Lastly, allowing a Quarry to operate in Coalby Canyon will destroy the quality of
life we possess. This is the primary reason we live in this rural residential area.
There are additional concerns by neighbors who live under nearby cliffs and the effect of
dust on their crops. At the very least, there needs to be mitigating measures that limit the
effect of this enterprise, including no onsite crushing, high sound barriers, monitoring
vibrations and watering all disturbed ground.
Please consider scheduling any meetings concerning this issue in Cedaredge so all
involved might attend. Thank you for taking the time to evaluate this letter.
Sincerely,
