Walter Wise
Battle Mountain Resources
333 Clay Street
Houston, Texas 77002
RE: San Luis Project Adequacy Concerns (File M-88-112}
Dear Mr. Wise:
We have completed our adequacy review of the Battle Fountain Resources,
San Luis Project permit application. Enclosed are our concerns and comments.
Our review indicates that there are five general areas which should be
clarified within the permit application. These issues are:
1. Potential ground and surface water impacts;
2. Post mining configuration of the West Pit;
3, Reclamation of the waste disposal areas;
4, Heap detoxification and
5. The estimated cost of reclamation.
Recognizing the technical complexity of the project and the extent of our
adequacy concerns, it does not seem likely that these issues will be resolved
before the January 25, 1989 Board meeting. I suggest that, e~fter Battle
Mountain has had an opportunity to review our concerns, we meet to discuss a
timeframe in which to complete the permit review process.
If you have any questions or comments about this matter, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Steven G.
