It
~ seems obvious that the blasting, dig-
gmg and beep-beep-beeping of heavy
equipment will make Rabbit Moun-
tain completely unsuitable for the
meditative wanderings we currently
er{joy there. We don't presume to
speak for the eagles, hawks and deer
we often see there, but they will sure-
ly find this intrusion on their world
even more unpleasant.
^ It seems stupid and unsafe to
move the quarried material from the
quarries to the cement plant via
heavy trucks across Highway 66.
These trucks required considerable
distance to slow down and stop. A
traffic light at the intersection will
help ~ but trying to beat the light
will be a dangerous temptation for
both the truck drivers and the east-
west drivers. Wouldn't it make mare
sense for Southwestern Portland Ce-
ment to build an underpass for the
trucks or (better yet) a conveyor sys-
tem?
^ Although Southwestern Portland
Cement's goal may be to return the
land to its former condition, er to cre-
ate some ponds or reservoirs from
the quarry holes, we doubt that any-
one will be able to hold them to this
objective 20 or.30 years from now.
The compacry may be bought or ga ~
out of business.
