Canany <br />Division Director <br />Natural Resource Trustee <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology has received an application to conduct coal <br />exploration activity by the Kiewit Mining Group, Inc., in Elbert County. By the Rules of <br />the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board, the applicant must provide a statement, <br />with appropriate references from relevant state or federal agencies, or published sources, <br />that their exploration and subsequent reclamation activities will not jeopazdize the <br />continued existence of an endangered or threatened species listed pursuant to Section 4 of <br />the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (U.S.C. 1533) or the Nongame, Endangered or <br />Threatened Species Conservation Act (Section 33-8-101 et seg• C.R.S.) or result in the <br />destruction or adverse modification of critical habitat of those species (Rule 2.02.2(2)(h)). <br />The applicant proposes conducting activities on approximately 5.5 acres of land surface <br />in the following locations: <br />Section 31, T 7 S, R 58 W; <br />Sections 5, 9, 16, 21, 28 and 33, T 8 S, R 58 W; <br />Sections 5, 7, 17, T 9 S, R 58 W; and <br />Section 1, T 8 S, R 59 W. <br />The activity is located on the USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle map of Limon. The applicant <br />has requested that the specific locations of their drilling remain confidential.
