• • iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Colorado Springs, Colorado ,,,~,.~~~ G D
20 October 1977 R~i,~LO
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board ;~~V 'w '= ~9~~
723 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street DAIIJED LAND RECLAMATION
Denver, Colorado 80203 t of Natutel Resources
Colo. Dep
The undersigned citizens respectfully request the Reclamation Board
to schedule a public hearing in Colorado Springs during week-end or evening
hours to consider our verbal objections to Castle concrete's pending
applications to continue mining activities in our community.
Our protest x111 stress several points
1, Public documents filed by Castle concrete in Colorado Springs
at the E1 Paso County Clerk and Recorder's Office exclude
reclamation plans from public scrutiny. These plans are
stamped "confidential",
2, Castle's actions speak louder than their words. The
company has xrought almost total devastation at Snyder,
Queen's Canyon, and Pikeviex quarries; clearly evident
to the casual or trained observer.
3, We request the Reclamation Board to inspect this devastation
and to review reclamation activities xithin the upper twelve
acres at Queen's Canyon which border on total failure after
many years.*
4, Castle concrete should be judged on almost two decades of
dismal reclamation performance. Surity should be significantly
increased to insure adequate zeclamation,
5, Mining permits should be denied until Castle submits convincing
evidence of successful reclamation efforts xithin a realistic
time limit,
*see~ "A Report on Queen's Canyon Quarry"
Colorado Springs Park and Recreation Department
Design and Development Division
November 1, 197+
2,~ 1
~.~ .
