Mix #4 is a 100% seeding of
=_atgrass. Slender Wheatgrass is a native
:kly, is moderately drought tolerant (it
~recip.), non-aggressive, and relatively
short-lived. The Pryor will last an estimated 3-5 years, and the San
Luis 5-10 years. They are both fairly palatable to both livestock and
wildlife, and may be overgrazed, as might the Luna and Mix#5. Mix#5 is
a canned mix of introduced species from the Ark Valley Seed Company,
called Nature's Choice. Other seed companies will have similar mixes
so if you choose another seed company, just give me a call and I will
recalculate the seed quantities. This, and similar mixes have proved
successful for quick, short term cover, and are readily available in
pre-mixed quantities.
As this might be considered a temporary seeding, I would recommend
a straight seeding of mixes #2, #3, or maybe #4. This would give you
quick ground cover while avoiding the added cost of mixing. Another
option might be to use a combination of mixes #2, #3, and/or #4. You
might also consult with M&G, as in the past they have mentioned using a
sterile winter wheat hybrid cross for covering Topsoil Stockpiles.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call.
~~y Yours,
' ~~~^-D
Rick Romano
Soil Conservationist
cc: file
