Mr. Clazk also <br />contacted Robin Olterman, District Wildlife Manager about this gravel pit. No action was taken at the <br />time because of the relative minor nature of the proposal. It is the opinion of Colorado Division of <br />Wildlife staff that the operation as proposed does not present an actual or potential threat to endangered <br />species of wildlife or their critical habitat. <br />Bald eagles and peregrine falcons, both classified endangered by state and federal law, may be observed <br />in the general vicinity of the proposal as can golden eagles. All three species aze closely monitored by <br />state and federal agencies. <br />Although keenly interested in protection and preservation of endangered plants, the Colorado Division <br />of Wildlife does not inventory or otherwise keep track of endangered plants. Therefore, comments on <br />the possible effect of this operation on endangered plants cannot be made by CDOW. The application <br />notes an existing weed problem in the permit azea. It is recommended special emphasis be given to <br />actively controlling noxious weeds. Vegetative reclamation of disturbed land needs to be phased <br />incrementally with development.
