This competitive lease application
involves 193.08 acres of unleased federal coal underlying private surface
estate. The coal, which is recoverable by underground mining methods, lies
approximately 4 miles southwest of Hesperus, Colorado, in La Plata County.
The data adequacy report was prepared by Bureau of Land Management staff in
the Montrose District Office and San Juan Resource Area in Durango. The
staff preparing the report included their recommendations regarding the
adequacy of the information in addition to describing the information
available. In many cases, where they felt the existing information was not
adequate, they have also identified the inventory/survey data which they
feel is required. Finally, to assist you in your review, an environmental
analysis involving coal leasing actions in the immediate area is enclosed.
In order to maintain the established schedule for processing this lease
application, we request your determination on the adequacy of the
information concerning reclamation-related resources and issues by Monday,
May 22, 1989.
