III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
Atten~ Bill York'Feirn
1313 Sherman St
Denver, CO 80203
February 17, 1993
• •
~'''
v
0.
`~\` ~, NI ,~\\
V' ~
This letter is being written per your request given by phone on Feb. 1U-93.
It is regarding the blasting and damage being done in the area just South of
Highways 66 and 36 in the Lyons, CO, area.
The people signing this letter all live in the Wittington Subdivision or the
property immediately to the South and North of that Subdivision. All have
had damage to their property, some minor and some major.
The following things have been experienced.
There has been cracking of foundation walls, ceilings, etc. These
homes range from 5 years to over 20 years old. This damage is not the
same as normally experienced from settling- Whole sections of sheetrock have
been loosened. (This happening in the last few weeks after a particularly
severe blast....see below )_
When blasts are heard and felt, pictures have been moved or knocked off walls.
When blasts are heard and felt, objects have fallen from shelves. This can
not happen from normal ground movement.
Several windows have broken their seals that were factory installed.
The most severe damage to date has been broken water lines leading from the
wells to the houses. This has happened three times at opposite ends of the
area. In addition to this the most dangerous damage was when a propane line
from the propane tank to the house was broken. The propane dealer said he
had seen this happen before and it was due to ground shifting.
Isn't it strange all these things are happening? Many of us in this area have
lived in Boulder County over 40 years. Many of us lived in homes that had been
built by the same constractors in others areas and have not experiences damage
like this. We ourselves lived in the Olde Stage Area----known for ground
shifting and never experienced damage like this to our previous home.
Recently, some of us had dinner together and all this information came to
light. Since there is considerable difference in the ages of our homes and
sizes and shapes and contractors vary, it doesn't make sense that the damage
all happens at similar times.
Three of our doors, including an outside entry door, have had to be removed
and reset because they would not close, due to shifting.
A few weeks ago a blast was so great the front door of the home on the
Southern end was popped open. It was shortly after this the sheetrock
mentioned above was loosened in a home at the North end and the water line
broke between the house and well at the home on the South end.
