Watcher
Executive Direttor
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
During the months of September and October 2002, Kerr Coal Company (KCC)
performed reclamation work on 45 exploration holes and monitoring wells in the
Northern portion of the Marr Mine permit azea. The work was completed by CT&E.
Geological Services and the Division was on-site on at least one occasion to oversee the.
work.
On 12 February 2003, the Division received a well abandonment report for the
reclamation work performed. Based on the on-site inspection and the information
contained in the well abandonment report, the Division believes that all of the work was
performed in accordance with the approved sealing plan in the Marr Mine permit (as
approved through Minor Revision 37 to the permit).
The Division has no further comments or concerns regazding the sealing of these holes.
The Division will, however, continue [o hold bond monies for the reclamation of the
holes until such time as KCC submits a formal bond release application and the Division
approves the release.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
James R. taz c
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Sandy Brown, CDMG
George Patterson, EFCI
Jerry Nettleton, MWH
Henry Austin, OSM
