Gunnison No. 1 Mine) 1SNW panel off the Northwest
Submains. One survey was conducted on May 23, 1991,
and the other on June 27, 1991. No birds were found to
be occupying the nests and all nest trees were
standing.
The NW1S panel was mined to 21 crosscut, then retreat
mining was begun. The second panel, NW2S, was mined
only thrBe rrpgcCritS & m'_ninQ of t!1 °_ third panel was
deleted altogether due to poor roof strat'~ and reduced
height of the coal seam.
Retreat mining in the NW1S panel will continue over the
next few months. West Elk's bimonthly check of the
nest trees will begin in September, 1991, and continue
every other month until subsidence effects on the
surface above the panel essentially cease, per our
agreement of April 26, 1990.
~:
