Box 572 ~~
Ouray, Colorado 81427 '~
Dear Mr. Caddy:
,.\

Lynn Lewis, of my staff, met with Sam Ewing on July 13, 1993 to discuss the
stipulations in the Aidgway Pit free uee permit COC-52699. it appears that
because of the steep natural topography in the pit, you will not be able to
maintain 3:1 elopes and continue mining ae stated in your mine and reclamation
plan. If you were to maintain 3:1 elopes, you would need to begin reclamation
of the pit now. If Ouray County wants to continue using the pit, the mine and
reclamation plan should be changed to show that the final elopes will be a 2:1
elope. We suggest you review your mine and reclamation plan to be sure that
current and future mining situation is in accordance with the mine plan. The
pit should also be surveyed because it may have exceeded or ie approaching the
9.5 acre limit permitted by the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (M-
78-268).
The operations at the pit look good. The locked cable will keep the general
public from driving through the pit and there ie still access around the pit
onto public lands. In order to keep the highwall at a minimum, some of the
clay material should be used in conjunction with the crusher on Bite.
There was a suggestion that the current road into the pit could be
straightened, thereby eliminating some of the curves. We will look at the
proposal that Ouray submits to see if it is a feasible idea. I have enclosed
some guidelines on road grades that may be of uee to you.
If you have any questions, please contact Lynn Lewis at 249-6047. Thank you
for your cooperation.
Sincerely yours,
Allan elt
`~(rea Manager
Enclosure (~~"
cc:
Pat O'Donnell, Ouray County Planner
CDMG, M-78-268 /
