CYCC plans to implement
grazing for the second consecutive year on the 520 acre pasture that encom-
passes the Mine 2, Area 6 reclamation. Grazing of this area was previously
requested by CYCC in a minor revision to Permit 79-177 dated August 28, 1984.
The Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division (CMLRD) approved the minor revi-
sion in a letter dated September 11, 1984.
As requested by the Division, a 1985 grazing plan has been developed for
the Mine 2, Area 6 reclamation and adjacent pasture. The 520 acre pasture is
being managed under a modified rest-rotation grazing system. Since livestock
grazing was initiated during the fall of 1984, CYCC believes that the optimum
grazing periods for 1985 are for a two week period in mid-July and for two to
three weeks in September. Deferring grazing until mid- and late-summer is
designed to allow sufficient time for seedling establishment prior to utili-
zation.
Based upon 1985 vegetation data, the cover and production values on the
Mine 2, Area 6 reclamation are comparable to the pasture reference area, as
shown in Table 1, Summary of 1985 Vegetation Data. Approximately 468 AUM's of
usable forage are available, as shown in Table 2, Forage Availability.
CYCC proposes to utilize a conservative stocking rate of 400 yearly
cattle for the four to five week grazing season. Livestock grazing is ex-
pected to stimulate tillering, promote root growth, enhance productivity and
increase diversity.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at your con-
venience.
Sincerely, C
~~~t~2Q Q t-~~G>/vt~ ~,-~,
Terrell K.
