Cattany
Acing Division DireROr
The Division of Minerals and Geology has completed review of the Report titled New Elk tine,
1992 Reclamation Area, Revegetation Success Study completed in August 2001. Based on that
review, we have a few questions.
1. What were the actual soil depths of the sampled locations on the survey (reclaimed) azea?
The report indicates that 4 of the 5 samples were less than 12 inches in depth. Since the
purpose of the study is ultimately to reduce cover depths on the two waste piles at the
New Elk mine, the actual depth of topsoil is of interest.
2. Were soil samples taken on the reference area? Could the general vegetative character on
the reference area be better due to more fertile soils?
If you have any questions, please call me.
Since ly,
Ken A.
