The entrance of the materials storage
bench access road will be extended approximately 100 feet up (to the west) at the intersection with the
upper mine access/haul road. Large trucks have had difficulty maneuvering onto the materials storage
bench azound the tight, upper portion of the access road curve. By extending the entrance, the access road
curve is widened.
The french drains to the south and west of the substation have been reconstructed and better drains
installed. Monitoring of the area showed continued movement. A test trench revealed that the older french
drains were not functioning properly and were not deep enough. These drains were excavated and the
drains and drain pipe reinstalled.
At the silos area, the head houses are being insulated and heated , as well as the base belts and drives.
This will aid in better winter wal handling conditions, reducing the chances of coal freezing, blocking and
spilling from the belts. Drains to better manage the large volumes of washdown water from the silos are
also being added, directing this water to sediment pond MB-3. The existing stormwater ditches and
culverts will remain.
To accommodate the growth in MCC's personnel, the existing bathhouse) office building is being
remodeled. The garage and covered parking are being enclosed and insulated to expand the underground
operator waiting area, add a warehouse dispensing area, and add a few offices. No outside additions are
currently planned.
Please contact me should you have questiorrs.
Sincerely. ~ Q~
~~'~/- ~~
ICathlcen G. Welt,
Environmental Supervisor
