Banta,
Drvivon Director
On this date I reviewed the 1989 Annual Postmining Topography map, submitted
by Peabody Coal Company for the Seneca II Mine. This submittal is labeled
"Annual Postmining Topography", drawing #0260-900423. I compared this map
with the approved Postmine Contour Map by overlaying them upon the light table.
The concerns that I voiced in my memo to you of September 26, 1989 still
exist. Generally, "the contours were only slightly similar." The most recent
submittal of the annual map "exhibited more diversity, with both steeper and
flatter slopes and much more undulating topography."
Also submitted with this 1989 Annual Postmining Topography map were 4 cross
sections; G-G' and H-H' which refer to the Wadge pit; and I-I' and J-J' which
refer to the Wolf Creek pit. Concerning the Wadge'pit, it appears that the
existing topography and the proposed topography are reasonable close to each
other except at the eastern end or bottom of the pit. It appears that spoil
ridges still exist there. Concerning the Wolf Creek Pit, cross section I-I'
shows the existing topography matching the proposed topography, However,
cross section J-J' shows a substantial difference. The existing topography
shows a gentler slope with much more even undulation. The Division might
consider this as an acceptable alternative to the proposed topography.
~qq / II /l j ~ ,.
P'CG<~• ''C C.
