E
S Coal Company
RECEIVED
APR 2 41997
Ms. Erica Crosby
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203-2273
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
Seneca Coal Com
April 23, 1997
RE: Seneca II Mine Permit C-80-005, Slide Notification
Dear Ms. Crosby:
This letter is to document the two slides which were observed
during our inspection of the minesite on April 22nd. Based on
ground conditions and the recent amount of snowmelt which has
occurred at the mine, these locations had not been detected
earlier by any other mine personnel.
The first location was in the northwest corner of Topsoil
Stockpile HH. This topsoil pile is just northeast of
sedimentation pond 004. Topsoil from this stockpile will be
utilized in reclaiming the graded portion of Auger Area E later
this summer. As soon as equipment can safely operate in this
area, we will recover the amount of topsoil which has slid and
spread it first. This corner will also be stabilized if any
topsoil remains in this stockpile after the reclamation season is
over in the fall.
The second area was in a reclaimed piece of ground southeast of
the PeCoCo Impoundment on a north facing slope. Again due to
ground conditions, we will repair and reclaim this site as soon
as we possibly can.
Should you or any other members of the Division have any
questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
Sincerely,
Michael G.
