The McClane Canyon Mine, located 19 miles north
of Loma, is a small underground mine operated by Salt Creek Mining
Company. Coal production at the mine averages less than 100,000
tons per year.
Permitting
The operator submitted its first permit revision in July of this
year. The application was complete upon submittal, and was found
to be adequate for approval, minor issues being the exception.
John Walters, the Manager of Mine Services for Salt Creek, has been
exceedingly cooperative during the review process, readily
implementing any advice or suggestions from the Division.
Compliance
The McClane Canyon Mine has received just one violation in its
operating history, it being issued in 1979. The operator conducts
frequent maintenance throughout the permit area, most of which is
beyond what is required by the Division.
