RE: Western Slo Car Inc.'s Request to Reduce Subsidence Monitoring
Pursuant to your request, I have reviewed WSC's request to reduce
subsidence monitoring at their Hawk's Nest Mine. The company, in light
of their temporary cessation, has requested a reduction from quarterly
monitoriny and semi-annual reporting of 14 subsidence nlununlents to annual
monitoring and reporting of 4 subsidence monuments.
In support of this request the operator has submitted survey results
collected throuyh (November 5, 1982. The applicant proposes the continued
monitoring of Monuments A, G, J and N, "...because they have shown the
yreatest variations to date and exemplify a diversity of type points
grading from being located over a very mined out area to an uninined area."
I recommend that we grant the operator's request with the following
conditions:
(1) The operator complete a monitoring survey prior to inid-November of
this year and submit the annual report prior to December 31 of this
year.
(2) The operator update Exhibit 2.05.6-U of their amended permanent
program permit application, a~nap entitled "Subsidence Cuntrol B".
This map presents the subsidence monuments, base stations and gun
stations superimposed upon the Extent of Workinys Map. The
operator should update the extent of workings as of temporary
cessation and should indicate the location of gun station LJtd i12.
(3) The operator prepare and submit three crass-sections projected
tilrouyil the subsidence monument sets A through G, H through J, and
K through N. Each cross-section should present the station
location, the topographic surface along the section line and the
location of the mined seam and underyround worxings.
(4) The operator prepare and submit a description of the type of survey
being conducted and of the "expected instrwnent and atmospheric
variances for this type of survey", which is stated within their
request submission.
