III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
July 25, 1989
Mr. Tom Colbert
Inter-Mountain Soils, Inc.
50 South Steele Street, Suite 520
Denver, CO 80209
Re: Bond Release Vegetation Sampling, Grassy Gap Mine, C-81-039
Dear Mr. Colbert:
Carl Mount indicated he talked with you this morning about your vegetation
sampling plan at the Grassy Gap Mine. He found the general plan adequate.
It complies with Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division Vegetation
Guidelines and the permit application. He did want me to reiterate three
topics from the phone conversation.
1. The reference area will be sampled and statistical comparisons made
with each revegetated pit. Further, I will look to see whether any pits
were seeded in different seasons. (i.e. If half of Pit 5 was seeded in
1984 and the other half in 1985, it would be considered in different
seasons). If this is the case, sampling will be performed within each
area. qq''
2. The proposed change in cover sampling methods from quadrap`ts (used in
the baseline program) to line-point transects is acceptable. The write
up purposefully does not commit to a specific length of transect line.
However, ~~conversation with hlr. Colbert indicated that transect length
will be adjusted at the mine site to "best fit" as determined by size of
revegetated areas. After "best fit" is determined, uniform length will
be used throughout the rest of the sampling. This is acceptable.
3, h1r. Colbert also indicated to Carl in their telephone conversation that
raw data will be included in any report submitted to Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Division. This is necessary and acceptable.
Should your understanding of this conversation be considerably different,
please contact me at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
Catherine W.
