Lochhead
Executive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Director
Recently, your office may have received a copy of a letter sent to our offices from
Mr. Ronald J. Forlina with the Colorado Department of Health (copy enclosed). In this letter,
dated August 8, 1994, Mr. Forlina provided some suggestions on how our Division could proceed
with determining whether or not the coal situated at the Linden Avenue Loadout could be found
suitable for disposal within a Colorado Lwdfill. `
Our Division wishes to dispose of this material at the landfill closest to the loadout area, which
would be the City of Trinidad's landfill. In accordance with Mr. Forlina's Suggestion No. 5, we
would like to know if the analytical procedures suggested by the Colorado Department of Health
are adequate to determine whether the material at the Linden Avenue Loadout could be disposed of
at the City of Trinidad's landfill.
We would also like to know whether the City of Trinidad would require testing for any
constituents other than those identified in the Health Department's letter.
Finally, we would like to know what other approvals our office needs to obtain from the City of
Trinidad for disposal of this material at the city's landfill.
Thank you for your assistance. We're grateful for your office's help in the preparation of this
project. A response at your earliest convenience is appreciated.
Sincerely,
GG~~~~
Daniel~aridez
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
DIH/bjw
Enclosure
cc: Wally Erickson, DMG~,~
Jim McArdle, DMG
Rich Babnick
m:\oss\bjw\dih
