~~' ~ IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ECEIyED
R
NORTH THOI~SON-FOUR NILE JUL 211987
MINERAL AND LAND CORPORATION
MINED LAND
RECLAMATION DIVISION
Candace M. Thompson 0163 Mt. Sopris Ranch Road
Mined Land Reclamation Division Carbondale, CO 81623
423 Centennial Building Phone 963-2880
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203-2273
Dear Ms. Thompson:
On July 13, 1987 I met with Jim Stover, Snowmass Coal Company, to review their
minesite reclamation plans. As surface owner North Thompson-Four Mile Mineral
and Land Corporation, ("North Thompson"), has an interest in Snowmass' current
reclamation plans.
In general Snowmass' plans for the No. 1 minesite are acceptable. North Thompson
approves of the concept of leaving relatively level benches separated by relatively
flat slopes where possible. The benches and gentle slopes will allow North
Thompson's livestock to better utilize the area in both the spring and fall.
North Thompson believes Snowmass' plans for reclamation of the No. 3 minesite
should be revised. Snowmass currently plans to grade this area so it looks
like the original mountain slope. North Thompson would prefer a relatively
level bench be provided in this area. By grading the outslope of the bench
to flatten its slope slightly and filling the cut slope, it appears Snowmass
could provide the desired level bench and still be able to revegetate the area.
Reclamation of the roads above and to the north of the No.
is also of concern to North Thompson. We agree the roads
to prohibit vehicle traffic. However, we can see no
the roads. North Thompson believes that leaving the
some benefits. Our livestock will utilize the level
obliterated road would be of no use. Wild game also
these as they travel across our land. North Thompson
be left in place and not obliterated.
1 and No. 3 mines
should be blocked
reason to completely obliterate
roads in place will provide
road areas whereas the
utilizes roads such as
would prefer these roads
Please let me know if you can have Snowmass' reclamation plans revised as outlined
above.
Sincerely, /~%~ ~ ~~
NORTH THOMPSON I
Robert M.
