Pursuant to your August 23, 2001 inspection and recommendations, please find a map of
the existing Quagmire Creek Pit azea in question, and this proposed Technical Revision
to address the control of sediment from the disturbed azea to the surrounding watershed.
A sediment pond is planned for to be located at the southeastern comer of the site. The
approximate dimensions of tbe sediment pond are 30' wide by 60' long and no more than
5' deep. Tbe sediment control structure will be constructed by using topsoil material to
form a low berm along the southern and eastern corner of the affected land azea. No
berms will be constructed along the north and western aspects of the sediment pond to
facilitate dtrect drainage of the pit floor to the sediment pond area. A spillway will be
constructed at the southeastern comer of the berm to direct storm flows to Quagmire
Creek drainage while retaining sediment on site. The sediment control structure is not
intended to hold water for a long duration. Storm related accumulations aze expected to
percolate into the relatively porous soils with 48 hours. The spillway will be a minimum
of eight feet wide, 12 feet long, will beconstructed ofrip-rap no less than 8" diameter,
and will be constructed with 1 foot minimum freeboard relative to the berm elevation.
Please note that the map showing the site reflects current operating conditions. Fremont
Cotmty has directed the writer to proceed with a new 1 ] 0 type permit application for this
site reflecting 9.9 acres of disturbance. The affected land(and permit) boundaries will be
moved somewhat to the west and a considerable distance to the north. An application
document has been developed and I am cunently awaiting feedback from Division of
Wildlife review, a fatal lease document with the land owner west of the fence line, and
Exhibit S letters prior to submittal to DMG. I expect to submit the application for
amendment to the permit within the next 30 days. Certainly, the sediment control
structure will be carried over to the new mine plan The sizing of storage capacity and
spillway dimensions reflect projections for the watershed parameters affected by the
proposed larger acreage.
