Lunti
egetation Sampling for Mine 2 (C-81-071) Drviyun Director
I looked through Colorado Yampa Coal Company's permit and bond release file regarding
approved method of vegetation sampling. A letter in the bond release file from Tony
Waldron, dated July 27, 1995 confirms sampling methodology used during June 1995
sampling in Blocks E and W at Mine 2, Block F at Eckman Park, and Block N at Mine 3.
These sampling methods were agreed upon during a meeting with CYCC and DMG on May
15, 1995, are in agreement with the April 1995 Bond Release Guideline.
Cover: 50 Meter Transects will be randomly placed throughout the bond release
block. Transects will be randomly oriented 0-360°. 10 observations will be
collected every 5 meters along the transect with a total of 100 observations
per transect.
A minimum of 15 transects should be collected per each bond release block
even if statistical sample adequacy is achieved with fewer samples. (CDMG
Guideline Regarding Selected Coal Mine Bond Release Issues, April 18, 1995,
page 21)
The respective reference area will sampled in a like manner.
Production: Five ~/aM2 quadrats will be clipped for production with every cover transect.
Production will be measured by life form, defined as; perennial
grass, annual grass, perennial forb, annual forb, undesirable
perennial forb, shrub, and sub-shrub. Alfalfa (Medicaeo saliva)
will be clipped and measured separately from other perennial
fortis.
