These,
according to Mr. Nagle, came from the quarry access road as
a result of a large storm on March 1 and 2.
On March 21, 1990, I inspected the road and found nothing
out of the ordinary. No small boulders could be found in
the roadway or in the gutter. A mixture of sanding chips
and granitic sand was found all along the gutter, but the
gutter was far from full, except in one small location.
Photographs were taken to document the condition as of March
21.
I discussed the matter with the guard at the Cedar Heights
gate and he was not aware of any "small boulders" that had
been in the road although he did say a small amount of
material did wash down the quarry road. He also indicated
that during that storm a lot of sand had been spread on the
snow covered road and the sanding truck turns around at the
guard house. Therefore, we are not sure exactly what Mr.
Nagle is concerned about. I did notice that there was a
considerable amount of material on the Garden of the Gods
road south of Balanced Rock, indicating that many of the
roads in the area suffered deposition of material as a
result of the storm. But there was more material on the
Garden of the Gods roads than there was on Black Canyon
Road.
