This years mining operation caill expand the present active area by
malting another h0'-50' wide cut in t}te sandstone Itoybttclc and by removing
the sandstone overburden down to the clay. A uar.cow ridge at the top of
the hill will hn .Left to screen L-he mining operation f.nmc the valley, even
though it will. lower the top of the hill slightly.
2. The sandstonr_ overburden removed in this new cut will be moved around
to the west side of the pit to the top of the north area that will be at
least partially reclaimed. Fie will fill in the present benches on top of
tfie north area, and continue tl~e contour of the slope of the undisturbed
area immedial'ely adJacent, down to~the area where we are presently mining.
IJe will also bench the area taltere expect further. disturbance, for safety,
and may bench other areas calten we reclaim at a later date. This will. be
determined by the depth of mining and overburden ava:Llable.
7. I'or the present time, we will leave the west end of the pit at approxi-
mately the ..^,mnc el.evai'ion, but probably will mine doo-m (:nether at a later
date when the new cut reaches that elevation.
h. As staCed earlier., some reclamation will be conducted L'hi^, year thrrntl;h
use oL overhurda~n from i-he new cut, to shape the contour of lice previously
mined area. A sincere effort will be made to transplant trees by front-end
loader ir.om L•he area being disturbed to the reclaimed area. 1 believe tbut
we all agreed that the survival racte would probably he low to moderate, buL'
the trees that did die would still present a nal'ural appearing area with
othr_r ar.eac: that do have dead trees.
