iii iiiiiiiiiiiuiii
Interoffice
MEMORANDUM
to: David Berry
1
from: Kent Gorham ~
subject: L,orencito Canyon xploration, Amendment #5
date: January 12, 2001
I have reviewed CX-96-218-00 file concerning the issue of bonding [he amendment #5 activities
for the proposed 2001 exploration at Lorencito. Please find attached a copy of a document taken
from that file. I will discuss in reverse chronological order.
Amendments 3 and 4 were appazently approved using a bond float scenario. Reclamation work
under these two amendments has been completed. Abandonment reports have been filed for this
work.
Amendment #2 (Cow Canyon/L.orencito Canyon test pits) was approved with a reclamation cost
estimate of $21,871.00. The Lorencito Canyon test pits was proposed but never undertaken. The
Cow Canyon reclamation work has been completed on-the-ground, inspected, and photographed.
The applicant has not requested bond release for any of this work.
Very little of the original NOI reclamation (monitoring wells) has been completed, primazily
because the sites aze still in use. For the two boreholes that have been reclaimed, abandonment
reports have been filed.
The bottom line is that there is easily $20,000.00 available that could be used for reclamation
over a,td above the $34,379.00 estimated to be necessary to reclaim the monitoring well sites.
Therefore, approving amendment #5, without modification or increase in bond, exposes the
Division to little, if any risk.
L.et me know if you have questions. Thanks.
CC: Dan Hernandez
