Boa 628 Division Dveuor
Nucla, CO 81424
Re: Cattle Grazing on the "Rice Tract"
Dear Mr. Gubka '
This letter is to inform you and landowners of the area known as the Rice Tract that after inspecting the mine
in early February of this yeaz, the Division has made a determination to halt grazing on the reclaimed land for
a minimum period of two years. The reclaimed vegetation appears to be well overgrazed and offers no
resistance to erosion by either wind or runoff. This property is under your control until final bond release and
the earliest that could be would be in the year 2005, so until such time, state and federal coal mining
regulations apply.
Please inform the landowner that all grazing on the reclaimed area will not allowed until such time that the
vegetation is established enough [o again allow grazing. The Division appreciates your handling of this
matter and will re-examine this topic again when conditions warrant it.
If you have any questions or are in need of any additional information, please write or call me at (303) 866-
4939.
Sincerely,
arty Ranney
~~
Environmental Protection S cialist
