The applicant states that they own an existing well that obtains its water from the Arapahoe Formation. They plan to use the well to meet the needs of the gravel pit operation. This well appears to be capable of serving the mining needs, however, the applicant must obtain a commercial use permit before the well can be used for either mining or municipal supply. We are also concerned about the proposed plan for augmentation to compen- sate for the evaporation from the gravel pit lake. The use of the two alluvial wells in conjunction with the Groundwater Appropriators of the South Platte (GASP) is not described thoroughly. The historic use of the applicant's wells and related consumptive use have not been shown to be equivalent to the lake evaporation. No indication has been provided to show that GASP is willing to augment for the lake evaporation. Until mole information is provided on augmentation of evaporation losses, we cannot recommend approval of the mining permit. HDS/RLS:mvf cc: Jim Clark, Div, Eng.
