Item 5b on page 4 of the letter alleges that the operator is not
adequately controlling blowing coal dust during stockpiling, loading and
hauling operations. The mine currently is not operating and no coal is
presently stockpiled on site, so the potential for excessive dust generation
is minimal at this time,
I discussed this issue with Scott Miller of your Grand Junction office and
requested that he inspect the site upon resumption of operations to insure
that the operator is in compliance with the air quality permits and to
determine if any additional control measures may be warranted. Scott
indicated that he would inspect the site, and requested that I inform you of
the situation and provide you with a copy of the Garfield Citizens Alliance
letter, At this time I do not know when Eastside intends to resume
operations, but as soon as I find out I will let you know,
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Since a y,
~ 5
Dan T.
