He said he had just discovered that the West
Elk Mine was undermining his property. He bought this property on
May 1, 1992 from Grand Mesa Properties Company. His goal for the
property is to make it a dude ranch and he is also planning to move
cattle to this ranch.
Mr. Mautz is specifically concerned about a domestic spring on his
property which he says is not flowing anymore. He also stated that
there is a crack above this spring. He said that he could get a
dozer in to fix the subsidence. From his observations, he believes
there is a 15 foot drop in the area of the spring. Mr. Mautz
believes these problems were caused by the West Elk Mine.
I asked Mr. Mautz to hold off on doing any dirt work. I also asked
him to send a formal inquiry along with pictures of the spring and
crack, if possible. I also asked him to send documentation
regarding the ownership transfer. He said he would send the
information.
~ cow
~E . r
~. ~~rnj.
~ r8 P6 ~
Roy Romer
Governor
Michael B. tong
Dimsion D~reaor
1
