Lung <br />Date: July 8~ 1999 Division Dmedor <br />Re: Hawk's Nest Mine (C-81-016) <br />At your request, I have reviewed the Hawk's Nest permit to evaluate <br />whether aquifers exist above the E seam. In addition to reviewing <br />the permit, I consulted with Steve Shuey who is familiar with the <br />Hawk's Nest Mine and the adjacent Somerset Mine. Apparently, there <br />are no major aquifers above the E seam. Localized perched aquifers <br />of small lateral extent may exist, however the only regional <br />aquifer is the Rollins Sandstone, which is a significant distance <br />below the E seam. If you have any questions, please give me a <br />holler! <br />
