The company
still has to acgwre water rights
from the Rito Seco Creek, whtch
runs near the proposed mine. '
The company proposes digging
two open-pit mines, milling the ~
and dripping cyanide on a 95-acre
heap of crushed rock to leach the
gold. The golden liquid is then to
flow into collecting ponds.
All this is supposed to take place
off the Rito Seco's (loodplain and
all waste is to be diverted into oth-
er ponds and not into the creek,
which flows into San Luis,
But many San Luis residents
don't believe Battle Mountain Gold
will keep its promises, and they
tear a repeat of a 1075 cyanide ~
at the site which killed fish and oth-
er wildlife along the creek for five
miles.

p~ ~z
3.73-89
tli..+.i...,~..a:~ - -
