These soils formed in alluvium derived dominantly from <br />sandstone. Slope is 1 to 12 percent. Elevation is 5,300 to 6,800 <br />feet. The average annual precipitation is 10 to 14 inches, the <br />average annual air temperature is 46 to 48 degrees F., and the average <br />frost-free season is 110 to 130 days. <br />These soils are fine-loamy, mixed, mesic Ustoll~c Haplargids. <br />Typical pedon of Barx fine sandy loam, 1 to 3 percent slopes, <br />about 900 feet north and 400 feet west of the southeast corner of Sec. <br />27, T. 45 N., R. 17 W. <br />Al--0 to 2 inches; brown (7.SYR 4/4) fine sandy loam, dark brown <br />(7.SYR 3/4) moist; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very <br />friable, slightly sticky, and slightly plastic; mildly alkaline; clear <br />smooth boundary. <br />A2--2 to 5 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) loam, reddish brown <br />(5YR 4/3) moist; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very friable, <br />slightly sticky, and slightly plastic; mildly alkaline; clear smooth <br />boundary. <br />Btl--S to 11 inches; yellowish red (5YR 5/6) sandy clay loam, <br />reddish brown (SYR 4/3) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky <br />structure parting to moderate fine granular; hard, very friable, <br />sticky, and plastic; mildly alkaline; clear smooth boundary. <br />Bt2--1] to 15 inches; yellowish red (SYR 5/6> sandy clay loam, <br />reddish brown (SYR 4/3) moist; strong medium subangular blocky <br />structure; very hard, friable, sticky, and plastic; mildly alkaline; <br />clear smooth boundary. <br />
