Box 179 <br />Eagle, County 81631 <br />Dear Keith: <br />This is in regard to Eagle-Gypsum Products' application for a <br />change in mining procedures and in response to Eagle County's <br />concerns and comments on this matter. Your letter dated June <br />8, 1992 listed several questions concerning the potential <br />impact of blasting in a revised mining procedure. I am <br />submitting the following information on those questions. <br />1. What are the noise impacts? <br />Sequential blasting techniques will be utilized and <br />blasting operations will take place at least one mile <br />from any populated area so noise impacts will be very <br />minimal. Precautions will be taken to postpone <br />blasting in low-cloud cover situations that would <br />tend to amplify or reflect noise. <br />Will geologic stability of surrounding areas be in <br />jeopardy? <br />Any affect on the geologic stability of surrounding <br />areas will be minimized by sequential blasting. Aith <br />the extraction of ore in slots as described in my <br />letter of May 16, 1992, the surrounding areas will <br />also be 'buttressed" with backfill material. If the <br />need arises to leave a blasted mining face exposed, <br />a precision technique such as smoothwall or pre-split <br />blasting will be utilized to leave a stable face in <br />place. <br />740 Hwy b • P.O.
