RE: Hawk's Nest Silo Demolition Project (RN-GOAL-MINES-9)
Dear Mr. Wiseman,
The Division of Minerals and Geology is near completion of the Hawk's Nest Silo
Demolition project located in Gunnison County. The contractor, Miners Inc., has
completed demolishing and burying the Coal Silos and removing the associated
structures. Miners Inc. de-mobilized from site on March 11, 1994. The remaining
work to be conducted on site by the contractor is re-paving a section of old
State Highway 133 and possibly some minor earth work. This work will be
completed on or before Hay 15, 1994 when weather conditions are more favorable.
On Harch 10,.1994 repreeentativea of the Southern Pacific Lines inspected the
railroad tracks at the Hawk's Neat Mine. A letter signed by Ray Alrie states
that all alterations and repairs on the tracks had been finished and no further
repairs or alterations were expected. If you have any outstanding concerns as
a result of the Hawk's Nest reclamation project, please notify the Division as
soon ae possible.
The Division has a few reclamation tasks not included in the contract with Miners
Inc for the Hawk's Nest Mine. This includes removal of the coal stockpile,
topsoil replacement and revegetation of the Coal Silo area. This work will be
put out for bid during the Summer and Fall of 1994. I will contact you prior to
further reclamation efforts of behalf of the State.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the staff of Southern
Pacific Lines for your cooperation during this reclamation project. The diligent
effort by Southern Pacific Lines during critical periods of this reclamation
project aided in its completion.
