Box 130
Rollinsville, Colorado 80474
Re: The Fruita mines
Dear Mr. H~'~:
I want to thank you for your letter regarding the Mineral Information
Institute. I look forward to receiving the textbook. I recently had a
conservation with tAr. Jerrold Marcus, a consulting engineer in California, who
is thinking about writing a college level text similar in subject manner, I
told him about the institute, and he may be contacting you in the future.
In regard to your interest in the Fruita mines, I did have discussions
with the Bureau of Land Management and nU' staff. Unfortunately, I am not able
to give you the answer that you would like to hear. Since the viability of
future mining is linked to the federal coal leases and since, for now, it
appears that the leases may be lost under the federal due diligence
provisions, I can't find a sound reason for delaying the reclamation of the
site. If you were the permittee and the site was in full compliance with the
Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act, we might be able to approach
this differently.
