S. Steel Corporation
As requested in your memorandum of June 23, 1986, the Office of Surface
Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) has reviewed the coal lease
relinquishment request for the following leases:
~II ~I~II~~I~~~~~ ~II
United States Department of the Interior
OFFICE OF SURFACE MINING
Reclamation and Enforcement
BROOKSTOWERS
1020 ISTH STREET
C-033301 Somerset Mine Permit Area
C-033302 Somerset Mine Permit Area
D-052504 Somerset Mine Permit Area
D-052558 Not Within Permitted Area
The reclamation performance bond for the Somerset mine is held jointly by
the Federal government and the State. A review of the bond was completed
earlier this year by Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division (NERD) and
the bond amount xas determined to be adequate. OSMRE has consulted with
Colorado MLRD, and ae per the provisions of 30 CFR 740.15(x)(2) concurs
with the release of the reclamation portion of the Federal lease bonds
for Federal leases C-033301, C-033302, and D-052504 xhich are within the
Somerset mine permit area.
Federal lease D-052558 is not within an existing permit area, and
therefore, we have no comments an the relinquishment of this lease.
A permit transfer from U.S. Steel to Kaiser is currently being
processed. Prior to transfer of the permit Kaiser will be required to
post a reclamation bond, and rill assume liability for reclamation.
Should you have any questions, or require further information please
contact Mel Granberg at 844-3233.
ec: Robert Hagen, AFO
R.
