Lochhead
EnecuUVe Direnor
Michael B. Lang
Division Director
About your letter dated October 28, 1998 (received via FAX, 11:50 1028/98), the Division of
Minetals and Geology provides the following responses to your question as shown below, in
italics.
The above mine[Golden Eagle Mine) damaged several acres of my land on the north side of
Highway I2. The surface needs to be restored with topsoil and reseeding.
Why has DMG approved a bond release when we are left with un-restored damage?
Basin Resources continues to be responsible for both the maintenance and the reclamation of
this site (bleeder return shaft), including the short section of road leading from the Santistevan
Canyon road. No change in reclamation liability or respotuibility at the bleeder return
occurred as a result of bond release SL-02. This site was specifically excluded from bond
release SL-02. Sufficient bond money remains to cover the costs associated with completion
of the required reclamation plan at the bleeder return, in the unlikely event that Basin
Resources should abandon the Golden Eagle site prior to fmal Phase III bond release. Basin
Resources cannot receive fmal bond release for surface reclamation before the yeaz 2007.
If you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
J
~~~
Kent A.
