This notice is being sent to inform you of the ent:losed United States Department of Energy (DOE) Preble's Meadow Jumping Mouse (PMJM) Protection Policy that is in effect a[ the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site. Because Preble's is known to occur at the Site, procedures are being followed to ensure that activities do notjeopardize the PMJM or its habitat. Procedures described in the attached PMJM Protection Policy are followed for any activities occurring on the Site [hat could affect the PMJM or its habitat. These procedures are being reviewed with the U..`i. Fish and Wildlife Service, and will be incorporated into the Site Buffer Zone access procedures. Essentially, the PMJM Protection Policy provides that before any activities can be carriec out at the Site, a determination about the presence or absence of potential suitable habitat anti an assessment of potential impacts must be made by Site ecologists. Site ecologists must be provided with a project description and a project location to allow them to conduct their assessment. The results of their findings are reviewed by the Site ESA Coordinator, and may also be sent to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service for concurrence. Many Site riparian areas are known to be PMJM habitat and many other Site riparian areas have the potential to be PMJM habitat. Known and potential PMJM habitat located on Site is identified on the map that is appended to the Protection Policy. No activity is authorized on Si[e by DOE, pursuant to any license, easement, or other authority, which is likely to jeopardize the continued existence of the PM1Iv1, or which is likely to adversely affect its habitat.
