Drilling ProEram
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
The Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining Co. hereby submits notification to conduct an
exploration drilling program in the Moffat Area at the Edna Mine. The drilling program is
being performed in accordance with Section 3.1.5, Exploration Within The Permit
Boundary, of the approved Edna Mine Permit Application, CO-001-80.
The primary purpose of the drilling program will be to gather coal quality data for the
Wadge Seam. A total of 23 drill holes aze proposed, three of which are also designed to
provide additional lithologic information in the vicinity of the proposed Moffat
sedimentation pond. Enclosed is a map showing the proposed locations of the drill holes.
It should be noted, no drilling will be performed within the 200 foot buffer zone of Trout
Creek.
Reclamation of the drill holes will be perfotmed in accordance with the portion of Section
3.1.5 which discusses exploration activity not immediately in advance of mining. This
approach is being taken due to the potential extended period of time between the exploration
activities and the mining through of the drill site locations. Therefore, these holes will be
permanently sealed as discussed in the aforementioned section of the approved permit.
It is P&M's understanding that additional bonding for the drilling program will not be
necessary. The approved permit reclamation bond as discussed in Section 4.8 currently
contains a contingency fund, in excess of $471,000.00, which provides sufficient bonding
to cover the drilling activity.
The drilling program is anticipated to be performed beginning in August, 1989 and be
completed as quickly as practical. An abandonment report providing the information stated
in Section 3.1.5 of the approved permit will be submitted within 60 days following the
completion of the activity.
