THIRD ST.
VICTOR, CO 80860
Mr. Berhan Keffelew,
Mined Land Reclamation Div.
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203-2273
Dear Berhan:

June18, 1997
I have recently heard that the Mayor of Victor has stated that the
blasting at the Cresson surface mine is damaging his building. I have lived
in Victor since the inception of the Cresson Mine and my house has
suffered absolutely no damage due to any blasting, I have on occasion
heard the blast when I have been out on the patio of my house and even felt
a slight vibration in very rare instances. These vibrations were often
mistaken for a car or truck going up or down on Third Street in front of my
house. Heavy cars and trucks going up and down the street at odd times,
day or night produce the same minor effect when the mine is not blasting.
In the lot immediately behind my house was the Providence Shaft. A
drift from this shaft connected with the 600 level of the Gold Coin Shaft
which in turn extended its working far to the north under the Ajax and its
varied connections. The collar of the Providence shaft was covered with
concrete slabs by the Inactive MLR Division several years ago so you can
determine its location, if needed, from that Division's records. There are
also small shafts across the street from my house to the north. These
workings should, if anything, accelerate any potential damage to my house
from blasting but they have not.
If I can answer any questions or you wish to inspect my house, I
would be very pleased to have you do this.
Sincerely
~~
Ed Hunter
