:--.
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Govei
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Dlreetor
DATE: March 6, 1989
T0: Cathy Begei _
FROM: Carl Mount (~ ~G~~
RE: Bourg Mine Seed ~dixture, Permit C-81-021
As you requested, I have made a comparision of the approved versus the actual
seed mixtures used on the Bourg Mine for their 1988 revegetation efforts. As
you will see from the attached table, the seed mixture used on the mine site
closely approximates the approved seed mixture. Hard Fescue (Festuca ovinq
duriuscula) was substituted for Green Needlegrass (Stipa viridu a TF1s is
an accep able substitution since both are native, cooTseason unch grasses.
Douglas rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus was left out probably because
of unavailable seed. owever, a amoun o tcer milkvetch (Astragolus
cicer) seed was doubled to somewhat compensate for this. The actua~ber of
pure live seed (PLS) per square foot remained comparable with 136.5 seeds per
square foot approved and 134.0 seeds per square foot applied. The actual
applied seed mixture is acceptable.
I could not find anvthinq in the permit document that specified an approved
seed mixture for the loadout (Northgate) area. I believe the mixture that was
used is acceptable.
From my telephone conversations with Kay James, it appears that no areas were
seeded with the approved "Saline Soil Seed Mixture" because no areas of saline
soils (Electrical Conductivity of the saturation extract greater than 4) were
found.
Attachment
3873E/scq
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
