Lamm
Governor
DATE: May 17, 1985
T0: Mc Clane Canyon (C-004-80) and Munger Canyon (C-020-81) Files
FROM: Jim Pendleton "~ I..~L`~~
i
RE: Notes on Field V' ~ ation of May 14, 1985
I met with John Walters at the Mc Clane and Munger Canyon mine sites, in the
presence of Fred Banta, Tom Gillis, and Steve Renner. We examined
stereographic air photos of the Mc Clane Canyon surface facility area. Based
on that photographic examination, it is my opinion that the surface facility
area qualifies as a steep slope mining area. Vertical sandstone cliffs
existed at the location of the Mc Clane Canyon portals. I also discussed
possible reclaimed configurations for the surface facility area with Mr.
Walters. We then toured the surface facilities area to examine the surface
drainage facilities and discussed reconstruction of stream channels. John
Walters hopes that bedrock will be encountered at approximately channel design
gradient. If not, careful riprap and energy dissipation designs will be
necessary to maintain equilibrium channels.
We drove up the Munger Canyon mine bench access road to ascertain how the road
cuts and bench cuts have been performing. Slope failures were evident in the
final road cut before the bench and in the slope cut above the bench. Both of
these slides are relatively small in extent but will require remedial
treatment.
During our return drive to Loma, we rendezvous with Mr. Walters to view the
proposed Munger Canyon waste pile. The site appears to be a desirable site
for the placement of waste.
JAP/ddt
cc: Tom Gillis
0546E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street .Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
